Carnaval Itinerary & Info

Carnaval (also known as Mardi Gras) is the Roman Catholic celebration leading up to Lent (the 40 days in which Roman Catholics fast, give up vices, etc. to prepare themselves spiritually for Easter). Carnaval is a time for eating, drinking, costumes, and partying and is celebrated in many parts of the world.
One of the most famous Carnaval celebrations is in Cádiz, Spain. In Cádiz, Carnaval lasts 2 weeks and is celebrated by wearing humorous costumes, usually related to social issues in sarcastic and witty ways. Groups of music compete and perform in the street.
During the day there are festivities, musicians, and performers in the streets. At night, it turns in to one giant street party.
